The Center in need of donations for monthly operating expenses

The Center is in great need of monthly donations, as board members explain that the organization’s regular donations have slowed considerably since receiving ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding from the Ozark County Commissioners late last year.

Organizers note that the ARPA funds could only be used on three things: construction of a deck, a deck covering and handicap accessible doors; but that money could not be used for The Center’s monthly operating expenses.

The Senior Citizens of Ozark County board raises money each month at The Center’s First Sunday Chicken Dinners, along with any donations other donations that have been received.

From those funds, The Center pays for the following: interest on a loan for The Center’s building; utilities (paid quarterly); building insurance (paid quarterly); toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies for the building (excluding what Senior Age provides); coffee, tea; drink accessories; paper goods including ink and office supplies; salt for the water softener, air filters; light bulbs; chicken dinner supplies including take out containers; and any other misc. items as needed.

Board secretary Karen Dugger notes that The Center had to recently pay $3,420 for sewer repairs.

Organizers say they appreciate any support they receive from the community.
