Cody’s, a new bar in Theodosia, will host a grand opening Saturday

Cody’s, a bar located off Highway 160 in Theodosia, is hosting its grand opening this weekend. The establishment, open to those age 21 and older, is named after 34-year-old Cody Wright, pictured at right, who died of terminal illness last fall. Cody’s brother J.R. Wright and his mother Ellen Wright, own and will operate the bar in Cody’s honor. J.R. told the Times that his brother loved live music and karaoke, which they’re calling “Cody-oke” at the bar.

A lighted back deck area, complete with corn hole games, is available to guests to use at Cody’s.

Inside the new Cody’s bar features pool tables and dart boards for guests to use.

Theodosia residents J.R. Wright and his mother Ellen Wright are opening Cody’s, a new bar and gathering spot located on Highway 160 in Theodosia. The place is named in honor of J.R.’s brother and Ellen’s son, Cody Wright, who died in September 2022 from a terminal illness.

“He loved live music and karaoke,” J.R. told the Times recently.

The bar’s grand opening is slated to be held from 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, and continue until closing at 1 a.m. Sunday. Free food and live music will be offered beginning at 1 p.m. and continue throughout the night.

The bar will be open regular hours of 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. 7 days a week. In addition to a full bar, bottled beer, bucket specials, drink specials, wine and non-alcoholic drinks, the establishment will offer specialty pizzas (including classic pizza options and more interesting toppings such as chicken bacon ranch pizza, street taco pizza, chicken alfredo pizza and cheeseburger pizza). The bar will also offer appetizers including chicken strips, french fries, fried mushrooms and other various snacks.

Karaoke, coined “Cody-oke” at the bar, will be offered on Thursday and Saturday nights, and live music will be performed on Friday nights. The bar, open only to customers age 21 and older, is biker-friendly and offers covered parking for motorcycles on site.

Wright says the bar is a passion of his, alongside his current employment as an equestrian performer at Dolly Parton’s Stampede in Branson. He served as a corporal with the Taney County Sheriff’s Office before that.
