County accepts bid for culvert material

Ozark County Commissioners are, from left, Eastern District Commissioner Layne Nance, Western District Commissioner Jim Britt and Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton.

The Ozark County Commissioners opened two bids for culvert materials during the meeting held Monday, March 2. Dickey’s Culvert and Viebrock Sales were the only two companies to submit a bid.

Dickey’s Culvert submitted a bid of $53,519.76 for metal pipes and $60,555.40 for polypropylene.

Viebrock Sales bid $46,236 on the steel pipe and would not hold the county to a certain quantity on the polypropylene pipe as long as the order is at least $3,900.

Western District Commissioner Layne Nance told the other commissioners that the polypropylene offered by Viebrock is also guaranteed against a burnout. “If you ever get a fire, unless you start a big fire on top of the pipe, if it burns the pipe and damages it, like from a natural disaster, a wildfire, they’ll come an replace it free of charge.”

Nance said that while Viebrock’s initial price on the polypropylene pipe is slightly higher, the savings on the metal pipe and the burnout guarantee on the polypropylene balances out, especially because the county doesn’t have to purchase a certain amount of pipe to secure the prices.

The commissioners unanimously accepted Viebrock Sales bid for the culvert materials.

The Ozark County Commissioners hold a regular weekly meeting at 9 a.m. on Mondays in the upstairs meeting room in the Ozark County Courthouse in Gainesville. Meetings are open to the public.
