County accepts bid to redo some courthouse floors

Ozark County Commissioners, pictured from left, are: Western District Commissioner Layne Nance, Eastern District Commissioner Jim Britt and Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton.
The Ozark County Commissioners met Monday for their regular meeting with newly elected Eastern District Commissioner Jim Britt serving in his first month in the new position. Britt replaces longtime commissioner Gary Collins, who retired at the end of 2024.
The commissioners said they are continuing to work with FEMA to obtain reimbursement funds for the flood Nov. 3-9, 2024. Federal disaster assistance was made available to local governments in Ozark and nearby counties after President Biden approved a major disaster declaration for Missouri Jan. 2.
The commissioners also commented on the county’s road and bridge crews, which ran throughout the weekend, working to clear the more than 700 miles of county roads here. There were 12 to 14 county workers who put in time over the weekend to clear the roadways.
Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton said that they are planning on redoing a good portion of the courthouse floors. A bid opening was held, and the sole bid, submitted by Brandy Pace, was accepted for $24,800. Newton said that in areas where the old floors are not badly damaged, Pace can lay a commercial-grade laminate floor over top.
Newton also said that SCOCOG is proceeding with a grant application that will, if granted, pay to build a new recycling center.
The Ozark County Courthouse is closed next Monday, Jan. 20, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The commissioners meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. To contact the commissioners, call 417-679-4096 or email ozarkcounytcommission@outlook.com.
