Former Mammoth post office building burns
A building on County Road 527 in Mammoth that formerly housed the Mammoth post office and Mammoth schoolhouse burned to the ground during the overnight hours of May 8-9. According to the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department dispatch report, the call was made reporting the fire at 11:26 p.m. May 8. The caller said that the building was on fire, along with a propane tank located inside the structure (silhouetted by the blaze near the center of this photo). Oakland (Arkansas), Gainesville, Lick Creek and Pontiac-Price Place VFDs responded and kept the fire contained to the one building without spreading to a nearby home or structures. The Ozark County Ambulance also responded but was not needed, as there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is not known.
