Friendly Neighbors Extension Club selling raffle tickets for quilt, shams
Hootin an Hollarin is just around the corner, and quilt show organizers are gearing up for a great quilt show at the festival this year.
The Friendly Neighbors Extension Club has also begun selling raffle tickets for the quilt pictured above, which will be raffled off with four matching pillow shams, at Hootin an Hollarin. The winning ticket will be drawn on Saturday night of the festival, Sept. 21.
The quilt is 81-inches square and will cover a full or queen bed very nicely, said organizers.
Tickets can be purchased while it is displayed at the area banks and at The Center in the time leading up the festival - then at the Hootin an Hollarin quilt show, Sept. 19-21, on the Gainesville square.
Organizers say the Hootin and Hollarin quilt show is an important part of the heritage in the Ozarks and a highlight of the Hootin and Hollarin festival.
“We look forward to showing off the awesome quilts created by the ladies, men and children as old as 90 and young as 9 who spend many hours creating works of art in cloth. The show is an inspiration to those who have yet to catch the bug of quilting. So don’t be shy and bring your creation for the visitors to admire. The only requirement is that it has never been in our quilt show before,” said Lily Branco, Hootin an Hollarin quilt show committee chairman.
The 10 categories of the quilt show should cover anything a person can quilt. The show will also have special ribbons for judges’ choice, best in show and peoples’ choice.
Quilts need to be brought to the quilt show location sometime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The quilt show will be located next door to Pandora’s Petals on the east side of the Gainesville square. Festival organizers say to look for the quilt show banner out front.
Antique quilts for display are also welcome and will be displayed if there is enough room. They are not judged.
