Gainesville High School held its 2024 high school graduation ceremony last Friday, May 17, in the high school gym.

The event opened with a performance from the school band, followed by an opening prayer by senior Jarett Hogan. Brady Myers and Elijah Burrow performed a song, and 2024 GHS senior class president Diana Wages welcomed guests to the ceremony and introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Kara (Hambelton) Johnson. Johnson graduated from Gainesville High School in 2011 and earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and a PhD in organic chemistry. She is now employed as a formulation scientist at Procter & Gamble, tasked with improving the company’s products.

The 2024 GHS salutatorian Carrie Richer and valedictorian Emily McClure also took the microphone and delivered speeches to their classmates and loved ones in the attendance.

Miranda Donley then read off a list of students’ names who earned scholarships or certificates, before all graduates were called onto the stage to accept their high school diploma.
