Haskins, Freeman running for committeeman seat in Jackson township for OC Republican Committee

Adam Freeman Candidate for Jackson Township Republican committeeman

David Haskins and Adam Freeman will be on the Republican ballot for voters who live within the Jackson Township, an designated area in Brixey.

The committeeman position is an unpaid, political party position. Ozark County Republican Committee Chairman Roger Pittaway provided us with this description of the position:

“Each established political party in the state is supposed to maintain various committees. At the county level, each township is represented by one man and one woman. According to committee bylaws, ‘The purpose of the county committee shall be to foster loyalty to the Republican Party, to promote its principles, and to recruit, assist and elect Republican candidates.’ Members are required to attend local meetings. Also may be called upon to participate in special meetings, when our committee is contacted by the governor’s office, to make recommendations to fill some county level offices that have been vacated  unexpectedly. A very detailed description of these committees can be found in Missouri Election Law Statutes beginning at 115.603.”

Pittaway says that the term essentially begins when the election results are certified and the candidate is sworn in.

All Ozark County Republican committee members file every two years, but only contested races appear on the ballot. In most areas, members are unopposed, and they are automatically, duly elected, he said.

David Haskins

Incumbent candidate for Jackson Township Republican committeeman

Personal information:

I grew up in the Brixey area (being in the Jackson Township) with a family history in Ozark and Douglas County dating back to the mid-1840s on three of my grandparents’ side. I presently live in Brixey on a small farm, raising a few cattle.

Employment history:

My parents owned a plumbing and electric business as I was growing up. Having worked for my parents growing up, and afterwards, I drove a semi hauling cattle, grain and fertilizer for Morrison Fertilizer for 14 to 15 years. I started a welding and pipe supply business where I built metal cattle working facilities in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, and sold steel for farmers and ranches in Missouri, Arkansas and Iowa, which I no longer do. Also, in 1991, I started an auction service serving southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, and in 2008, I acquired my real estate license, which I’m the owner/broker of Ozarks Realty 4 U LLC, and Haskins Auctions, which I still operate today.

Educational background:

I attended the one-room school in Brixey (known as the upper Brixey school) for first grade with my uncle Fred as the school teacher. I then, after consolidation, came to Gainesville to finish my grade school and high school education.

Greatest strengths of county:

The strength of the county is the ability of our county officials working together for the betterment of our citizens and the ability to manage the financial resources we receive (it isn’t easy).

What distinguishes you from your opponent:

I have worked as an election judge for this township and have served 19 years as the committeeman, my first time and currently have held this position the past couple years. I was the western district commissioner in 1993-1994, which deals with the Ozark County government. As an elected committee person, there are times when a vacancy position comes up to be filled, which the committee refers a name of a person to the governor’s office who they feel would be the best for the interest of the county. I have served on the Ozark County Board of Equalization for the county as a commissioner in the past and recently as a real estate broker in helping those with having property in Ozark County concerning tax assessment. I feel that the experience that I have to offer would be a plus in electing the committeeman for this position. – David Haskins, God Bless Ozark County and America.

My journey in public service began as a cadet with the Branson Fire Department, where I was honored as the Rookie of the Year in 1997. Following that, I enlisted in the US Army and served as a noncommissioned officer in Afghanistan, where I worked as an infantryman and paratrooper during combat operations. I later had the privilege of serving as a commissioned officer aviation platoon leader in Iraq from 2008 to 2009. Retired from the US Army at the rank of captain.

Educational background:

I graduated from Branson High School and later obtained my undergraduate degree from Columbia College. In addition to my academic qualifications, I have received military professional education from the Fort Bragg Noncommissioned Officer Academy. I also was recognized as honor graduate from US Army Aviation Captain Career Course in 2011.

Greatest strengths of county:

In my opinion, the county’s greatest strengths lie in its embodiment of American heritage. Our community is a shining example of self-reliance and toughness, qualities that make America the greatest country on Earth. Having traveled far and wide, I can confidently say that we reside in one of the most exceptional places in our nation.

What distinguishes you from your opponent:

Having had the honor of leading our soldiers through demanding situations, I am prepared to bring that same dedication and skill to support the community of Jackson Township and Ozark County. I value transparency, integrity and accountability in every aspect of my work. I strongly believe that our leaders must uphold honesty, ethics and responsiveness to the people they serve. As a Committeeman, I pledge to remain approachable to the residents of Jackson Township and to attentively consider your feedback and suggestions.
