Historium tea on Aug. 4 has ‘fresh cut flower’ theme with speaker from Rock Hill Flower Farm

Heather Hoffman of Rock Hill Flower Farm in Pottersville will be the main speaker during the Aug. 4 Ozark County Historium annual summertime tea. Hoffman raises a variety of flowers for market.

Tickets are now on sale for the Ozark County Historium's annual summertime tea, to be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4.

With a theme of “fresh cut flowers," Heather Hoffman of Rock Hill Flower Farm in Pottersville will be the ideal guest speaker. Hoffman, who sells fresh flowers that she raises from seeds she starts, has developed sound practices to ensure that she has a large number and wide variety of flowers and greenery that she shapes into beautiful bouquets. She will speak about her garden and how she makes it work.

The Hoffman family, which includes husband Andrew and sons Cameron and Finn, moved to neighboring Howell County when Heather was hired to work at the hospital as an occupational therapist. She has also practiced as a home health therapist, covering nine counties including Ozark. She currently contracts with the Gainesville R-V School system as their in-house occupational therapist.

While OT is her profession, gardening has long been a passion for this self-taught floriculturist.

"I've always grown flowers and vegetables," said Hoffman, "even gardening in pots when we lived in an apartment. The first thing I did when we bought our property in the country was to add garden beds. Then in 2020 when we were facing covid and being very diligent about staying at home, I had the time to learn about seed starting on a large scale. That is when I had enough flowers to begin to sell them."

She markets her bouquets from her Facebook page, Rock Hill Flower Farm, and in 2021 developed a real following by selling bouquets at a local farmer’s market in West Plains. Heather is known for the gorgeous variety of flowers in her bouquets and their natural-looking arrangements.

There is a limited number of tickets for the tea, which must be purchased in advance; the cost is $10 and includes a meal and the program. They are available at the Historium, located on the west side of the square in downtown Gainesville. Hours of operation are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Call 417-679-2400 for more information, or email ozarkco1@ozarkcountyhistory.org
