Local WRVEC men compete in linemen rodeo
White River Valley Electric Cooperative linemen recently showcased their skills at the International Lineman’s Rodeo in Kansas. They competed with the best of the best, putting their training to the test. The competition consists of four events: “hurtman rescue,” speed climb and two mystery events.
WRVEC had two teams, as well as an apprentice. Team one consisted of Steve Martin and Tyler Headrick, both of Gainesville, and Brandon Sullivan of Ozark.
Team two consisted of Hunter Verheyen, Stephen Sullivan and Cameron Hyde, all of Stone County. The apprentice that competed was Tyler Johnson of Ozark.
The Lineman’s Rodeo attracts the best linemen from around the world to compete in events based on traditional lineman tasks and skills. The first Lineman’s Rodeo was held in September 1984, with 12 participating teams from Kansas and Missouri. The Rodeo has grown to over 200 teams and 300 apprentices.
