Massive rainfall continues to destroy county roads

According to Ozark County Western District Commissioner Layne Nance, over the holiday weekend, the county received between 8 to 12 inches of rain, and the roadway damages are still being assessed.
“There’s a lot of damage, and we’re trying to fix it as fast as we can,” said Nance.
Many county road and bridge employees worked Sunday afternoon and Monday despite it being a holiday weekend, trying to stay ahead of the rain, he said. “But it just kept raining and raining. And getting muddier. It’s just a mess. There’s only so much we could do while it was still raining.”
The commissioners hope to have most county roads open this week “at least the ones without bridges,” said Nance. “But there were a lot of culverts washed out, too.”
Commissioners still are not sure of the amounts of damage done to county roads and bridges.
“We’re trying to figure it out,” said Nance. “We’re still finding stuff.”
The commissioners will have a more accurate assessment of damage and timelines by next week.
