New food truck, Fyre Fry’s, serves up extensive menu of interesting fried items in Theodosia

Fyre Fry’s is located on Highway 160 in Theodosia across from the Bullseye station. There is a large gravel parking area and a bathroom facility in a small shed next door. The business’s hours are currently 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Cort Shoemaker and Kevin Garcia are the owners of Fyre Fry’s, a new food truck located on Highway 160 in Theodosia. The food truck serves up an interesting mix of fried foods, burgers and other options.

Amid last week’s winter weather torrent, Cort Shoemaker and Kevin Garcia opened their new food truck business Fyre Fry’s on Highway 160 in Theodosia across from the Bullseye station.

Their opening, Feb. 2, occurred when other businesses in the area had closed due to a forecast of six to eight inches of snow. Despite the threat of snow, Shoemaker said the opening was very successful and exceeded their expectations. And they say they’ve been packed ever since.

Fyre Fry’s offerings

The food truck is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. offering up a full menu of tasty options.

As the name suggests, fried food is at the forefront of the offerings, paired with single, double and triple burgers, BLTs, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, cheddar dogs and bacon cheddar dogs.

Traditional sides of crispy french fries and onion rings are offered, as well as some more interesting selections.

In the fries department, diners can choose from cheese fries, bacon cheese fries, spicy pickle fries, spicy green bean fries, chicken fries, pretzel fries with cheese and funnel cake fries.

Other dishes include fish and chips, popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders, chicken cordon bleu bites, cajun crawfish bites, mini BBQ tacos, mini chicken tacos, white cheddar curds, mushrooms and mini corndogs.

Salads provide a lighter option, and a few kids meals will keep the young ones happy. Ice cream cups are offered for dessert.

Owners’ background

“We moved to Theodosia in January of 2021 from Kansas City. It’s been our dream to open our own business,” Shoemaker told the Times. “We love Ozark County and wanted to plant our roots here.”

The pair, who say they’ve grown up as close as brothers, decided they wanted to open a restaurant here in July 2021 after relocating to Theodosia with their wives and children.

“I’ve always wanted to open my own burger place, and my partner Kevin has lots of restaurant management experience. We wanted to open a restaurant we would want to eat at ourselves with affordable prices.”

The two men said they came up with the Fyre Fry’s concept and business name after purchasing the food trailer last summer.

“We sat around our trailer debating and talking about names. We ultimately decided to focus our name on our fried foods, even though we consider our burgers and dogs to be gourmet. We wanted to stand out,” Shoemaker said.

Staying in Theodosia

When asked if the men planned to travel with the trailer, Shoemaker said the food truck is stationary now and they plan to remain in Theodosia for now.

A nearby storage shed offers flush restrooms for customers to use. He says they hope to eventually get some picnic tables to sit out front where guests can enjoy their food at their location.

If the business is successful, the pair hope to open Fyre Fry’s food trucks in additional locations.

“We are very happy to have this opportunity. We opened in what most here consider the off-season on purpose. We wanted to make a statement to our locals that we are here for them and will be staying year around,” Shoemaker said. “We would like to thank all the people that came to our opening and look forward to meeting new people and serving our community yummy food at affordable prices in the future.”
