Residents of Theodosia who have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Mexican restaurant, El Tule Oaxaca, no longer have to wait. The restaurant officially opened its doors to the public last Friday, April 25, and was warmly welcomed by the local community.

The business owners, William Bairez, Elena Cruz, Natti Cruz and Alberto Salinas, who have operated another location of the same restaurant in Ava for several years, said they are looking forward to providing Theodosia residents and visitors with the same great food and service closer to home.

The extensive menu features a variety of appetizers including cheese queso and fresh guacamole. A salad section on the menu offers up a plain tossed salad, taco salad, fajita taco salad, shrimp fajita taco salad and a chicken salad. There are eight nacho plates with toppings ranging from cheese only to full-on fajita nachos and a seafood nacho plate with shrimp, scallops and crab meat is even offered.

Main entrees and house specials offer a number of selections with chicken, steak, fish and seafood. Traditional Mexican favorites like tamales, burritos, chimichangas and quesadillas are on the menu, as well as some other interesting selections like fish tacos. The family highlights one house special in particular, the “Molcajete Ranchero,” which is described as a “combination of steak and chicken marinated with our secret recipe. Cooked with grilled onions and cactus. Topped with  mild chipotle salsa, green onions, avocado slices, fried jalapenos, oaxaca cheese and tortillas. Served on an authentic Mexican Molcajete bowl.”

Ribeyes and t-bone steaks are offered, both plain and with various toppings, as well as a surf and turf combo featuring a t-bone with onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and shrimp on top.

Chicken, steak, shrimp and seafood fajitas, soups, vegetarian options and combination dinners are also available. There are several items like individual tacos, burritos, tamales and other items that can be purchase ala carte. There is also a kids menu, lunch menu and desserts offered.

The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. 7 days a week. It closes at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday nights, it will stay open an hour later until 10 p.m.; however, the owners say that the hours may change in the future to better meet the local needs.
