Ozark County Courthouse is currently being repainted gray

The Ozark County Courthouse is currently being repainted, and the color is being changed from beige and tan to a light and dark gray. The Ozark County Commissioners  gave an update on the courthouse’s new paint job during their meeting Monday.

Randy Conrad is completing the project, and had gotten about a third of the paint job completed in the two days that were dry enough to paint last week. The concrete sidewalk and faux stone entryway, by Simpson Concrete, has also been completed and sealed.

Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton said the rest of the paint job won’t take long, but they have to wait until the weather is dry enough to continue work.

Commissioners also opened bids at the meeting for road oil, hot and cold mix and road chips for use in the county’s road and bridge departments.

There was one bid submitted for road oil from Coastal Energy for $2.78 a gallon, delivered. The bid was accepted unanimously.

For hot and cold mix, there were two bids, one from Atlas Asphalt in Mountain Home, Arkansas, who bid on hot mix only, and another from Pace Construction.

The commissioners discussed how it makes sense for the road and bridge crews to use whichever company is closest to their respective project. Legally, counties have to put purchases over $12,000 out to bid, but Western District Commissioner Layne Nance said that a single load is not over $12,000. The commissioners decided to table the issue and talk to other county commissioners to see how they handle their hot and cold mix purchases.

There was only one bid for chips from Indian Creek Materials for $16 a ton. The commissioners voted unanimously to accept it.

The commissioners meetings are open to the public and held at 9 a.m. Mondays in the upstairs office of the Ozark County Courthouse.
