Pendergrass couple opens campground, Bayou Glade RV Park in Bakersfield

Ashley and Sara Pendergrass have recently opened the Bayou Glade RV Park off Highway 101 in Bakersfield where they have seven well-spaced campsites available by reservation.

Ashley and Sara Pendergrass have recently opened the Bayou Glade RV Park, located at 3256 Highway 101 in Bakersfield, directly across from the Assembly of God church building on the south side of town. The campground is located near several Norfork Lake accesses and offers seven spacious, grassy RV sites with full-hookups (water, electric, sewer). There are three pull-thru and four back-in sites. The RV Park is open year-round and long-term and short-term stays are available.

Reservations can be made online at or by calling 417-274-3247. Guests can follow along with updates on the campground’s Facebook page as well. The Pendergrasses are currently offering special winter rates: daily rates are $35 for 30 amp and $40 for 50 amp; weekly rates are $210 for 30 amp and $240 for 50 amp; and monthly $415 for 30 amp and $430 for 50 amp.

Ashley Pendergrass is a local farmer, and Sara is a school teacher who resigned from the public sector to become a homeschooling mother to five children. Ashley is an alumni of Bakersfield School District, and his family has deep roots in the Bakersfield area.

The RV park is named after the “Bayou Township,” the historical name for the area, as well as the glade landscape found on the hill of the property. When Ashley and Sara discovered the property where the RV park now sits, it was in need of some tender loving care, they said.  They wanted to improve the property and make it a nice place where people could stay to enjoy the area.

“With more people deciding to purchase RVs and live or travel in them, we wanted to offer a service where people could park their RVs and enjoy the beauty and hospitality that Bakersfield has to offer,” Ashely told the Times. “ With the hard work and help of LGR Land Management, Reed’s Excavating Service, Kevin Howell, Evan’s Plumbing and TLM Land Management Services, that dream became a reality.”

The Pendergrass couple say they have traveled the country with their children in an RV and have stayed at many RV parks. After experiencing all kinds of parks, both big and little, nice and not-so-nice, they knew exactly what they wanted to offer guests who would stay at their park, they said. “It was very important to have lots of space between RVs, grass, well-maintained sites, trees [which are planted and coming in the future, they say] and enforcement of rules where guests can enjoy peace and quiet, while having a comfortable, clean area to park their RV. We want our guests to feel at home, feel safe and be able to relax and enjoy their time in Bakersfield. We would also like to thank our neighbors, the community and our family for their support and patience while constructing this property. We are very thankful and blessed!”
