Primary candidates attend local Farm Bureau meet-the-candidates event in Gainesville

There was a packed house at the Ozark County Farm Bureau’s meet the candidates event, held June 21 at The Center in Gainesville. 

Candidates each gave a short speech about why they are running and what they bring to the table. 

Farm Bureau Vice President TJ Lewis led the event, and after the candidates all spoke, Ozark County Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton gave a little update on county projects. 

Candidates who attended the event included:

• Ozark County Assessor Incumbent Jama Berry. She is running against fellow Republican candidate Kim Wilson, who wasn’t present;

• Ozark County Eastern District Commissioner candidates Jim Britt and Michael Warren. The winner will replace current Ozark County Eastern District Commissioner Gary Collins, who is retiring at the end of the year;

• 155th District State Representative candidates Matthew Overcast and Julie AuBuchon. The two candidates are also running against Democratic candidate Courtney Sweeney-Legore, who was not present. The winner in that race will replace current State Representative Travis Smith, who is running for a senate seat;

• 33rd District State Senator candidates Travis Smith and Brad Hudson. The winner of that race will replace current State Sen. Karla Eslinger, who has taken a position as Commissioner of Education.
