T Highway near Mammoth will be closed at the low-water bridge over Possum Creek, known locally as Possum Walk bridge, for just over a month as Missouri Department of Transportation works to raise and improve the low-water crossing.

The bridge, located between County Roads 527 and 528 on T Highway, will be closed at 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, and will remain closed through 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11.

“If you know that area then you know it’s not really a bridge,” said Bruce Bales, MoDOT Gainesville maintenance facility supervisor.

“Basically we are closing it to replace the culverts with bigger ones and raise the road,” Bales said.

He said the improvements won’t keep the area from flooding, but it will minimize it some, but more importantly it will move the water off the road faster and allow for the road to be reopened sooner after flooding.

The work zone will be setup 24 hours a day, meaning the road will remain closed through that month at all hours of the day and night.

It will add some travel time to several residents’ commutes, who use T Highway and the Possum Walk Creek crossing to travel to and from work and other tasks.

Barricades and signs will be installed at the bridge to alert motorists. Those traveling through that area should find a different route.
