Teen killed in Ozark County rollover crash

Dakota Driskell, 19, of West Plains, was killed in an early morning rollover crash Tuesday, Aug. 6, on KK Highway, six miles west of Pottersville, in Ozark County. Her passenger, Travis J. Grubbs, 18, also of West Plains, was taken to the hospital after sustaining minor injuries in the collision. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s online crash report, Driskell was traveling eastbound on KK Highway around 1:42 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, in a 2000 Dodge Dakota with Grubbs as a passenger when she ran off the roadway, flipped the vehicle and struck a tree. 

Driskell was transported to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains by the Ozark County LifeCall ambulance service, where she was pronounced dead at 4:36 a.m. by Dr. Bill Holt. Grubbs was transported to the same hospital by private vehicle for minor injuries. 

According to the report, neither Driskell or Grubbs were wearing a seatbelt, and there was no insurance on the vehicle. The truck was a total loss and was towed from the scene by J and J Towing at the owner’s request.

The crash was investigated by MSHP Sgt. L. S. Elliott with assistance by Cpl. K. R. Waters with the MSHP Major Crash Investigaton Unit's team three. 

The crash marks number 15 for the year in MSHP’s Troop G (Carter, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas and Wright counties) compared with 18 at this time last year.
