Village of Theodosia buys new sewer camera, discusses ordinances

The Village of Theodosia met for their monthly meeting Jan. 10, revisiting discussions of employee benefits and a security system, as well as exploring some new topics.

The Village of Theodosia holds their board meetings at 5:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month at the Village Hall, located at 23 Village Hall Dr., Theodosia.

The next board meeting will be held Feb. 7.

Purchases from ARPA funds

In old business, Village trustees discussed the purchase of a new sewer camera, which was paid from funds the entity received from the American Rescue Plan Act. The sewer camera cost $6,695. The Village has also purchased a metal detector and two sewer wands totaling $2,385.

Employee benefits

Village clerk Shari Schaper presented the council with a Village employee benefits package proposal that included pricing for dental insurance as well as a list of proposed holidays, sick days and vacation days. Schaper said she’s still awaiting a quote on medical insurance costs that will be added into the proposal as well. The discussion was tabled until the quotes for medical insurance were in and the trustees had a complete proposal.

Security system

Another revisited topic was that of purchasing a closed captioned TV security system, which the Village has been looking into since a July 2021 break-in at Bull Shoals Package Store. Schaper told the Times that the burglars used the Village’s parking lot as a base for the crime. Trustee John Maglione presented four quotes from ADT, ADSI, Alert360 and Dreamco. The trustees agreed to look at the quotes closer within the next month and vote on which quote to accept at their next monthly meeting.

Audit, zoning and garage door opener

Schaper told the board of directors that the Village’s audit, performed by Deidiker Alvarado CPA firm out of West Plains, went well.

Trustee Randall Unruh suggested that the Village look at getting an updated Village zoning map from South Central Ozarks Council of Governments (SCOCOG).

Trustee Jerry Smith suggested the Village purchase a garage door opener for the Village maintenance shed. Maglione seconded the motion, and it was voted in unanimously.

Village ordinances

The next topic of business was Maglione’s suggestion to update the city’s ordinance book with more modern information. Smith suggested that the board members each go through the ordinance book and pick out what areas they’d like to see changed. The Village will continue to discuss the ordinance changes at an upcoming meeting.

Building garage before house?

In the public comments section of the meeting, local resident Lowell Clift’s building plans were discussed. Clift plans to build a garage and house on Buttonwood Drive. Clift said he’d like to build the garage first so he can store his tools there while he is building his house. The board of directors agreed that he could build the garage first as long as a basement to the home was poured by May 2022.

Maintenance report

Maintenance employee Bryan McGinnis gave the board his monthly maintenance report. McGinnis said that there is a problem with the Village’s relay board at the sewer plant. McGinnis said the Village may have to purchase another. The approximate cost to replace the board is around $7,000.

McGinnis also reported on an issue at Cooks RV Park where there is a broken sewer line. The park’s pumping station is currently shut down. McGinnis said the issue would be addressed in the next couple weeks.
