County will demolish handicap ramp

Ozark County Commissioners met Monday and tabled bid openings for redoing the courthouse steps and handicap entrance.
Commissioners had planned to open bids for redoing the steps on both sides of the courthouse and the handicap entrance. Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton said the two prospective bidders for the job had additional questions about the job, so commissioners voted to table the matter for a week and open bids July 17.
Newton said commissioners were going to go ahead and try and hire somebody to raze the crumbling handicap ramp on the west side of the courthouse. Commissioners have been told by engineers that the concrete ramp was crumbling and was unsafe.
The ramp has been roped off and is closed to the public.
Commissioners also plan to open bids on July 24 for upgrading emergency radios countywide.
The county has been advertising for bids and plan to open those bids at 9 a.m. on July 24.
In other business, commissioners talked briefly about the sporadic rain showers that have been hit and miss around the area recently. Commissioners said they continually monitor heavy rains to stay on top of county road conditions. “Sometimes it rains a couple inches over here and then just a few miles up the road we have nothing,” said Eastern District Commissioner Gary Collins.
Newton said commissioners are planning their second round of inspections of county buildings and property probably later this month.
Commissioners meet every Monday morning at 9 a.m. on the second floor of the Ozark County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
