GJHS boys bball teams having winning seasons

The Gainesville Junior High Bulldogs, coached by Lance West,  have been busy on the basketball court, earning victories in both A- and B-team action.

 

Bakersfield

Gainesville opened the stretch Sept. 8 at Bakersfield, where the A team came away with a 37-24 victory. The Bulldogs led 13-5 after one quarter, 17-10 at halftime and 29-16 after three quarters.

Max Hambelton led Gainesville with 11 points, followed by Grant Frye with seven, Warren Estes with six, Hudsyn Friend and Ty Alms with five each and Bryson Hawkins with three. 

The Gainesville B team fell to Bakersfield, with the Lions edging past the Bulldogs 13-12. Jet McConnaughy led the Bulldogs with seven points, while Tate Eslinger scored three and Dante Thome added two. 

 

Fordland

On Sept. 10, Gainesville hosted Fordland for another sweep. The A Bulldogs had a 47-10 win over Fordland. Gainesville built a 10-0 first-quarter lead, extended it to 26-3 at halftime and led 37-5 after three quarters.  Max Hambelton led the scoring with 22 points, followed by Denton Hambelton, Warren Estes and Grant Frye with six each. Ty Alms added four, Bryson Hawkins scored two and Hudson Friend added one.

The B team posted a 42-4 victory, with McConnaughy leading all scorers with 16 points. Damon Anderson added eight, Eli Garrison scored 10, Emmett Lynne and Tate Eslinger each had two, and Owen Hogan scored four. 

 

Mansfield

Gainesville continued its winning ways Sept. 11 against Mansfield. The A team defeated Mansfield 52-33, using a 19-point second quarter to take control after leading 11-9 at the end of the first period. The Bulldogs led 40-24 entering the fourth quarter.  Max Hambelton led with 16 points, followed by Hudson Friend and Grant Frye with 12 each.

The B team also picked up a victory, defeating Mansfield 37-10. Damon Anderson led Gainesville with 13 points, followed by Jet McConnaughy with 12, Emmett Lynne with four, Owen Hogan with four, Dante Thome with two and Eli Garrison with two. 

 

Dora

The Bulldogs A team defeated Dora 44-26 on Sept. 15, led by Max Hambelton with 22 points. Others scoring were Hudson Friend 7, Denton Hambelton 5, Warren Estes and Grant Frye with 4 each and Bryson Hawkins with 3.

The B team won 39-1. McConnaughy led with 12, followed Damon Anderson with 11 and Braxton Frazier with 8.

Sparta

The Bulldogs closed the five-game winning stretch Sept. 15 against Sparta. The A team completed the sweep with a 40-28 victory over Sparta. Gainesville led 13-11 after one quarter, 15-18 at halftime and 29-23 after three quarters. 

Gainesville’s B team won 50-16, led by McConnaughy’s 17 points. Anderson and Lynne each scored seven, Hogan and Garrison each had four, Braxton Frazier scored four, Willie Treat had three, and Eslinger and Thome each added two. 

 

Seymour

Gainesville hosted Seymour Monday night  and the Tigers edged past the Bulldogs 35-31. Max Hambelton led the Bulldogs’ scoring efforts with 11 points, followed by Grant Frye with nine, Warren Estes with four, Hudson Friend with there and Denton Hambelton and Ty Alms with two each.

The Gainesville B team won by a landslide 39-9, led by Jet McConnaughey with 19 points.

 

Alton

Gainesville traveled to Alton on Friday, Sept. 25 to take on the Comets and both A and B teams came nine with a win. The A team won, 37-27. Denton Hambelton led the scoring with 14 points. Others scoring for the Bulldogs were Max Hambelton eight, Hudson Friend seven, Warren Estes six and Ty Alms two.

The B team had another big win, overwhelming the Comets 42-8.  The Bulldogs were led by Damon Anderson with 13 points. Others scoring were Eli Garrison seven, Tate Eslinger six, Braxton Frazier and Emmett Lynne five each, Jet McConnaughy four and Dante Thome two.

Gainesville junior high boys traveled to Hartville Tuesday. Results of that game were unavailable at presstime. 

The Bulldogs host Chadwick at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
