Alvin Melvin Kimmen, 84

Alvin Melvin Kimmen, 84, of Gainesville, formerly of Harlan, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his daughter Cassandra’s home in Gainesville on May 15, 2025.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Smith-Kimmen; three sons: William Kimmen and wife Sherri of Florida, Andrew Kimmen and wife Dawn of Oklahoma and Frank Kimmen of Missouri; two stepdaughters: Cassandra Smith of Gainesville and Kimberly Smith (Travis Wiard) of Missouri; two stepsons: James Smith of North Dakota and Jerald “Doc” Smith and wife Anna of Missouri; two sisters: Mona Case of Manning, Iowa, and Bonnie Jacobs of Harlan, Iowa; one brother Larry Kimmen of Dunlap, Iowa; one sister-in-law Ellen Kimmen of Hastings, Minnesota; and many grandkids, step-grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews and family and friends.

Al was preceded in death by his son Jon Kimmen and his daughter-in-law Sherri Kimmen; his parents: Lawrence and Hilda (Schumacher) Kimmen; brothers: Ray, Kenny and Mike Kimmen; sister Phyllis (Kimmen) Grote and her husband Bubbles; brothers-in-law: Gene Case and Charlie Jacobs; and sister-in-law Darlene Kimmen.

A memorial service for Al is planned at a later date and will be posted for family and friends prior to the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
