Betty Jean Shuller, 89

Funeral services for Betty Jean Shuller, 89, were held May 2, 2024, at the Klinger-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte in Springfield.

She died April 29, at her home in Springfield.

The oldest of two daughters, she was born June 1, 1934, to Wayne and Stella (Bland) Mason at Ames, Oklahoma, a farming community. She grew up during the great depression and WWII years and was baptized at age 13. While in high school she worked at a local grocery store and was involved in cheerleading, pep club, 4-H club, had leading parts in school plays and graduated at age 16 as a member of the state honor roll.

In 1951, Betty and Roger Lindsey were married. To this union three children were born: Linda, Janis and Jim.  They farmed and raised cattle in the Hennessey, Oklahoma, community for five years. Due to a severe drought, crops failing and the bottom dropping out of cattle prices, they moved to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area in 1956, where Roger worked in an airplane plant. There Betty was active in church-related activities such as singing in the choir, visiting in hospitals and nursing homes, serving as a counselor for a Christian youth camp and teaching Sunday school classes for over 25 years. She was also active in Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scouts work. After 17 years, she and Roger divorced.

In 1969, Betty married Paul Shuller, adding Paul’s son, Kendall, to her family. They moved to the Ava/Souder community and resided there for 15 years. Betty worked at Rockbridge Rainbow Trout Ranch and later was employed at the Douglas County Assessor’s Office in Ava. After caring for her parents in her home until their deaths in 1985, she and Paul moved to the Marshfield area where they resided for 11 years. They were employed by the Methodist church, retiring in 1995 and moving to Springfield, where Paul preceded her in death in June 1997.

In February 2000, Betty married Robert Eckhardt of Lansing, Michigan, who died in June 2005. In May 2016, she married Albert Davis of Diamond City, Arkansas, who preceded her in death in October 2019.

Betty had a sense of adventure and lived a very active life. She enjoyed walking and hiking, photography, doll collecting, handcrafts and quilting, but her greatest joy was traveling. She visited all 50 states plus Germany, China, Italy, Austria, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands.

Survivors include her two daughters: Linda Curtis of Springfield and Janis and Chuck Larsen of Blanchard, Oklahoma; two sons: Jim and Tracie Lindsey of Ozark and Kendall and Kim Shuller of Ashland; nine grandchildren: Lawson Curtis, Russell D. Curtis, Robyn Smith, Jennifer Jackson, Tamara Larsen, David Larsen, James Lindsey Jr., Kayla Bauer and Kenda Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a loving sister, Sharlene and Dennis Lambring of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two nieces; two nephews; and a host of friends.

As Betty was very supportive of our military veterans, memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Legion Post 112, P.O. Box 236, Ava, MO, 65608. Online condolences can be made at www.klingnerfuneralhome.com.
