Doris Jene Holifield, 85

Graveside services for Doris Jene Holifield, 85, of Tecumseh, were held May 4, 2023, in the White Oak Cemetery near Caulfield with Bro. Kevin Kuk officiating. Pallbearers were Jarred Fienhold, Kyle Owens, Trevor Messer, Robert Ingalsbe, Kenneth Kuk and Keith Kuk. 

She died May 1 in Gainesville. 

Doris was born Feb. 20, 1938, in Chiloquin, Oregon, the daughter of the late Luther and Media (Alphin) Halfacre. She grew up in Corning, Arkansas, and started picking cotton at a very young age along with her siblings in efforts to help support their family. 

Doris married Billie D. Holifield on June 28, 1955, in Tupelo, Mississippi. She loved working on the farm, raising bottle calves, gardening, fishing and spending time with her family.

She attended Mineral Point Fellowship Church with her niece, Yvonne Bowers, and did so for many years. She loved her church family. The Kuk family held a very special place in her heart.

Doris is survived by two children: Steve Holifield and husband Michael Carey of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Teresa Owens and husband Bobby of Tecumseh; four grandchildren: Alecia Marcak of West Plains, Jarred Fienhold of Caulfield, Kyle Owens of Springfield and Katelyn Owens of Tecumseh; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard “Bill” Halfacre of Tecumseh; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billie Holifield on Feb. 18, 2013, one son, Billywayne “Bill” Holifield, two sisters, Wanda Hayes and Lue “Doodle” Mullins, and one brother, Elmer “Sonny” Halfacre.

Arrangements are under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
