Georgianna Dorrell, 88

Georgianna Dorrell, 88, of Pontiac, died April 21, 2024, at home. Memorial service information will be announced at a later date.
She was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Quapaw, Oklahoma, to George and Beatrice (Bingham) Root.
Georgianna married Jack Dorrell in 1953, in Baxter Springs, Kansas. They had three sons while living in Baxter Springs.
Jack was signed by the New York Yankees and played for one year in their minor league system. He passed away in 1966 at age 31.
Georgianna graduated from Baxter Springs High School and attended college to become a licensed medical technologist. She had a long career in medical technology, handling tests and results for a variety of reference laboratories including Upsher Laboratories of Kansas City, Missouri, and also for hospital labs in the Kansas City area.
She moved from Baxter Springs to the Kansas City area in 1968 and lived in the suburbs of Prairie Village, Kansas; Lakewood, Missouri; and Independence, Missouri before retiring to Pontiac in 2002.
In Pontiac, caring for the lakeland wildlife, gardening and her dogs were her passions. Georgianna never turned away a stray that was lucky enough to show up. The dogs sensed that Georgianna’s home was a safe haven for them.
She is survived by her sons: Deirick and Robert; her granddaughter Evelyn Scofield; great-grandchildren: Opal Scofield and Wyatt Scofield; granddaughter Brianna Bivens; sisters: Sue Ingram and her spouse Ken, Jean Martin and her spouse Ray Lee and Patricia Emig and her spouse Jules; and many nieces and nephews who adored her. Her strong spirit and guiding force shall be missed.
Georgianna was preceded in death by her parents George and Beatrice Root (Bingham); her son Richard Dudley Dorrell (Nee); and her sister Mary Ginavan.
