Joe Dwain Hardcastle, 85

A funeral service for Joe Dwain Hardcastle, 85, were held March 31, 2025, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel in Lebanon.
Joe died March 25, in Richland, Missouri. He was born on June 7, 1939, in Santa Cruz, California. Joe grew up in Theodosia and married his high school sweetheart, Sherrill Harlin. They had been married 66 years.
Joe made his profession of faith in Christ in 1969 and has been a member of the First Christian Church of Lebanon and the Rotary Club since then.
Joe dedicated much of his life to hard work and perseverance. He served as the manager of Herrman Lumber Company in Lebanon, Missouri, for 25 years before working for Meeks Lumber. Later, he pursued his own ventures as the owner of JH Excavating until retirement and maintained Hardcastle Farms for over 50 years. His commitment to his work and land was evident in everything he did.
Beyond his professional life, Joe had a deep love for farming, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, bluegrass music and his beloved dogs. These passions brought him joy and fulfillment throughout the years.
Joe proudly served his country in the Army for two years during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. His service reflected his dedication and sense of duty.
Joe’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the legacy he built.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sherrill Hardcastle; son, Brad Hardcastle; daughter, Lisa Ehlers and her husband Ed; grandchildren Noah Ehlers, wife Jordan and first great-grandson Jaxon, Hannah Ehlers and husband Derek and Elijah Ehlers; brother Jerry Hardcastle; sisters Betty Keeling, husband Elmo and Barbara Hardcastle; as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hazel Hardcastle; and sister Bonnie Diehl and husband Harry.
