Mary. A. Mccray

Mary. A. Mccray went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2023.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Peters and Kimberly’s husband Bruce, of Gainesville, and two grandsons, Riley and Colton Peters who are currently proudly serving in the United States Army.

Mary and her late husband Pete moved to Ozark County in 2006 to follow their daughter who moved here in 2005. They were proud grandparents and didn’t miss an opportunity to spend time or go to an event to support their two favorite boys. They loved the area and made many friends. Mary was especially close to June Hillhouse, Becky Hesterlee and Jim and Opal Beasley, amongst others.

Mary was a talented musician, playing the piano, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, banjo and accordion, and she was mostly self-taught.

She grew up in a little farm town in Illinois called Loami. Her father died when Mary was only 6, leaving a houseful of children for her mother to raise. They were poor, but they had love and never wanted for anything.

Mary’s music was heard in Illinois, Colorado and Missouri. She played in a local 50s band in Illinois with Ben Harmony, traveling around to play at different events. In Missouri, she played some with Junior Marriot and was proud she played at Hootin and Hollarin one year.

Mary was loved by many, especially her family who will miss her terribly. Cancer may have weakened her body, but her spirit and soul were taken up to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
