Melva Morrison Fogle, 92

A farewell celebration for Melva Lee Roberts Morrison Fogle, 92, of Springfield was held July 10, 2024, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. She died July 6 in Springfield.
She was born March 24, 1932, in Elijah, the oldest of the three daughters born to John and Louise Luna Roberts. Melva grew up in Ozark County living a simple life in Elijah. Some of her favorite memories were growing up with her sisters Vernetta (Wilhoit) and Betty (Amyx). As a young girl in 1946, Melva played the guitar and she sang with Vernetta on West Plains radio station KWPM, where they met and sang with Porter Wagner. In 1949, she graduated from Gainesville High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Nolen B. Morrison.
The Morrisons lived in Gainesville while Nolen was a coach, teacher and high school principal there. After he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas, the family moved in 1967 to St. Joseph, where he served as vice president of student affairs at what is now Missouri Western University. In St. Joseph, Melva became a very successful Realtor, even serving as president of the St. Joseph Board of Realtors. She also served on several state committees and won several awards for her service.
Melva moved back to Springfield in 1984 after Nolen’s death; she enjoyed playing golf and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She met Jerry Fogle Jr., and after they married in March 1990, they moved to Aurora. After Jerry’s death in 2011, Melva moved back to Springfield; she was a member of East Grand Church of Christ at the time of her death. She accepted Jesus at an early age and was baptized in a creek behind the Elijah Church of Christ.
Melva is survived by her sons, Daniel Morrison and wife June, and Brad Morrison and wife Shana; stepsons Brian Fogle and wife Renee, David Fogle, and Mark Fogle and wife Phyllis; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Carol Ann Morrison; several nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and those who knew her simply as Mimi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her daughter Michele Slone; sisters Vernetta and Betty; brother-in-law and sister -in-law Rex and Nadine Ebrite, and brother-in-law Gary Morrison.
The family extends thanks to Phoenix Hospice staff and Jacob’s Ladder staff for their kind and caring services to our mother.
