Ova May Elliott Shanks Conrad, 100, formerly of Ozark County, died Nov. 7, 2024, in a nursing home in Stubenville, Ohio. She was buried alongside her husband Bill and daughter Lorene in Paris, Pennsylvania.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1924, in Zanoni to Oscar Elliott and Carrie Elliott. She had three brothers and three sisters.

Ova was a strong Christian. She loved flowers and gardening; when she was younger, she loved milking her old Betsy Jersey cow. She loved singing in church. She was an avid quilt maker with over 150 quilts. Ova was a licensed beautician with licenses in Missouri and Pennsylvania. In 1940, Ova married Rufus N. Shanks of Zanoni. He preceded her in death in 1968. She had lived in Pennsylvania for the last 50 years. Her husband Bill died last year.

Ova had five children: Pauline, Lorene, Marshall, Vincent “Vince,” and Paula Mary. Only Marshall and Paula have survived their mother. Marshall Vincent lives in West Plains, and Paula lives in Arizona. Before she died, she made the sixth generation of her family alive together. With five children, lots of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren and tri-great grandchildren, she was loved by many and will be missed.
