Richard Comer Rector, 82

 

Graveside funeral services for Richard Comer Rector, 82, of Gainesville, were held Sept. 30, 2024 at Sims Cemetery north of Gainesville with Davin Friend officiating. 

He died Sept. 25, at his residence. He was born July 24, 1942, in Estelline, Texas, to Comer Rector and Matty Shockey.

Richard grew up in Macon. He was a veteran having proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. After his military service, Richard moved to the Kansas City area where he lived most of his life working as a security guard. He moved to Gainesville in 2013 with his family. He enjoyed fishing and watching his movies. Although he had his own way of showing it, Richard loved his kids and grandkids more than anything in this world. He was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

Richard is survived by his stepfather Dorval Sims of Gainesville; four children: Sunday Jessen of Moberly, Amy Nelson and husband Donivan of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Richard M. Rector and wife Jennifer of Independence and Susan Tabor and husband James of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Richard was preceded in death by his mother Matty Sims. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Sims Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
