Quilt show to have two new homes at Hootin an Hollarin

The Hootin an Hollarin Quilt Show, along with the annual quilt raffle, are top priorities for many festival attendees, and this year the quilt show will have two new homes during the Sept. 15-17 event.

The Ozark County Council has sponsored the show for decades, and this year's show is spread between two new "homes" during Hootin an Hollarin. The main show, including all 11 categories of quilted entries, will operate out of a building south of the square, on Main Street next to the laundry. Selected heritage quilts, old quilts that show wonderful creativity and workmanship but might have a stain or hole, adding to their character, will be displayed in the Ozark County Historium on the west side of the Gainesville square. Other heritage quilts will be included in the Main Street facility.

Check-in time for the heritage quilt section of the Hootin an Hollarin quilt show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Ozark County Historium. The extra week is needed to allow volunteers to hang the quilts on the Historium hanging system that extends from the ceiling.

Check-in for all other quilts will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Street location on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 14.

Quilts will be judged Sept. 15 and will be displayed from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

All quilts must be picked up between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

This year's raffle quilt is a beautifully pieced and intricately quilted log cabin design that was made and quilted by Katie Hoversen. The quilt has been displayed in businesses and sites around the county and this week is being moved into the Historium, where visitors can buy chances for $1 each or six for $5. The quilt raffle is a project of the Lilly Ridge Extension Club.

The eleven quilt categories being offered this year are youth, hand-pieced and hand-quilted by one person, machine-pieced and machine-quilted by one person, machine pieced and machine quilted by a group, machine-pieced by one person and quilted by a group, embroidery or applique by machine, embroidery or applique by hand, novice (first quilt), wall hanging, baby quilt, and quilted tablecloth or runner.
