Mona Mae Welch, 90

A visitation for Mona Welch, 90, of Ava, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava. Mrs. Welch died March 6 at Hidden Lake Care Center in Raytown with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Ocie, one of the nine children born to Charley and Dollie Myers. She attended what is now Missouri State University in Springfield and earned her teaching certificate. She taught grades 1 through 8 in the one-room school setting.

On April 2,1949,  in Mountain Home, Arkansas, she married Conley A. Welch. At various times they lived in Indiana, Kansas, Florida and other states for Mr. Welch’s construction work but always returned home to this area. 

Prior to moving to Ava, they were dairy farmers on their farm on Big Creek. Mrs. Welch loved farming, sewing and, most of all, her flowers and doing yardwork. 

She is survived by her children, Janice White and husband Bill of Kansas City, and Donald Welch and wife Nancy of Kirbyville; granddaughter Angela White and grandsons, Travis Welch, Wayne Welch, Brian White and Luke Welch; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Hershel Myers; one sister, Bonnie Copelin; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Conley; two sisters, Sharon Griffith and Florence Nichols; four brothers, C.H. Myers, Darrell Myers, Don Myers and Hervil Myers.

Private burial will be in the Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutie Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
