Big Bob's fishing report: April 12, 2017

Fishing for most species has been very good. Crappie are making their way to the banks to spawn, and within the next week many bass will be on beds also. Crappie are being caught on live minnows, small spoons and swimming minnows. It’s time to throw the Carolina rig with either a lizard or a grub. Yamamoto or Chomper grubs work almost as well as lizards. If you have wind, spinnerbaits are effective.

White bass have been a disappointment so far this year, yet some are being caught in places that normally have big runs. Try Charlie Brewer sliders or swimming minnows. Live bait is also very effective. Catfish are active and will hit just about anything, but you cannot go wrong with night crawlers. My supplier now has worms in bulk, so those of you who like the hundred count are in luck.

Big bluegill will soon be moving to their spawning grounds, and they are as tasty as any fish in our lakes. Usually, when you find one you find them in numbers and they are great to start a youngster on. Night crawlers work well on these fish.

Spring is here, fishing is good and it’s time to get on the water!
