Dora XC teams ready for new season

Members of the Dora cross country team run through the early morning fog and humidity during an off-season training session recently. Coach Sheree Nold said her team has been consistently working hard this summer and has high hopes for the upcoming season which kicks off Thursday, Sept. 10 at Willow Springs.
The Dora High School cross country teams have spent the summer building a strong foundation for the upcoming season, and coach Sheree Nold said the hard work has her excited about what lies ahead.
The Falcons will open their season Thursday, Sept. 10, at Willow Springs.
“We have had one of our strongest preseason training sessions this summer,” Nold said. “Our teams, both boys and girls, have a lot of energy coming into this fall season.”
Nold said the athletes have entered the season focused on goals they believe they can achieve.
“They are focused and they have goals that are attainable,” she said. “I’m looking forward to coaching these teams of students this year.”
One of the highlights of this year's program is the number of freshmen joining the cross country team. Nold said Dora has more freshmen participating this year than in any previous season.
“That is exciting when you look down the road for continued development of our running programs for Dora High School,” she said.
The Dora program also continues to build its middle school participation. This fall will mark the second full year of the middle school cross country program.
The Falcons will compete at several new locations this season, giving runners an opportunity to experience different courses while adding variety to their training.
“We will be racing at a few new locations this year, which adds to some good training and some adventure for the students as they run new courses,” Nold said.
As the season progresses, Nold expects to see continued improvement from the runners as they put their summer preparation to work.
“I think we will all enjoy seeing some good updates as we go through the season this year,” she said.
For Nold, the dedication shown by her athletes is one of the most encouraging aspects of the program.
“The work ethic and dedication the cross country student-athletes show has never disappointed me yet,” she said.
With a strong preseason behind them, a large group of freshmen joining the program and new courses ahead, the Dora runners are ready to put their preparation to the test when the season begins Sept. 10 at Willow Springs.
