The Gainesville Bulldogs are back-to-back-to-back district champions.

The three-peat Bulldog baseball squad bested Seymour in a ‘nail-biter of a district championship game last week, winning 6-5 over the Tigers.

“Talk about relentless,” Gainesville coach Blake Hobbs exclaimed. “I’m proud that our boys showed so much fight. It’s not easy trailing especially to the caliber of arm we saw. We got punched early and hard. But it looked like a Rocky movie because we just kept hanging on until time for our knockout round.”

Gainesville beat Cabool 9-3 in the opening round of the Class 2 District 10 Tournament, and then advanced to face Seymour in the championship game.

With the win the Bulldogs advanced to sectional play Monday at Iberia.

The Bulldogs lost to Iberia 3-2 in another close one.

In the district championship game against Seymour, Hunter Luna pitched 4.1 innings giving up 5 runs (1 earned) with 6 strike outs. He batted 1-3 with 1 RBI.

Aden Yarger went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, while Briar Walrath closed the game out and got the save on the mound with 1 inning pitched and no runs allowed while fanning 2 batters.

Wyatt Alms had 2 RBIs at the plate for the Bulldogs.

“This definitely wasn’t our best played game,” Hobbs said. “But we still showed a lot of fight and I’m excited to see what happens when we put it all together here down the stretch.”

The Bulldogs finished the year 21-5 and were ranked 6th in the state in class 2 teams.
