The Gainesville Bulldogs baseball team is holding a 17-6 record and is seeded in the number one spot in the Class 2 District 5 baseball tournament set to begin Saturday, May 14, at Seymour High School. The Bulldogs have a bye in the first round and at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, will play the winner of Saturday’s 1 p.m. contest between fourth-seed Bakersfield and fifth-seed Summerville. Seymour is seeded in the number two spot and at 6:30 p.m. on Monday will take on the winner of Saturday’s contest between Fordland and Cabool. The championship game will be played at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 17.

In the meantime, three Gainesville players – Landry Jenkins, Wyatt Alms and Daden House – have been named to the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Academic All State team for their success in the classroom and on the field. “These three showed the real importance of being a student athlete,” said Coach Blake Hobbs. “The student comes before the athlete, and it shows how important your education needs to be. Their leadership on the field has translated well to their leadership in the classroom. I’m proud of their accomplishments!”

The Bulldogs traveled to Hollister on Friday, May 6, and lost 8-3. “We had our chances, but just fell short to their offense,” said GHS Coach Blake Hobbs. Wyatt Alms was 2-3 at the plate
