Lady Bulldogs host 2nd Annual Holiday Tourney
Gainesville High School hosted the 2nd Annual Lady Bulldogs Holiday Tournament Dec. 26-30.
“I would like to thank all of the teams and community members for attending the 2nd Annual Lady Bulldog Holiday Tournament,” said GHS Head Coach Lance West. “I felt like we had four days of competitive basketball overall, and we hope to continue this tournament for many years to come.”
The Bakersfield Lions faced the Lady Bulldogs in the first game of the tournament at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26. Bakersfield, who was the number one seed in the tourney, defeated fourth seed Gainesville 55-37.
Bakersfield had four players scoring in the double digits in that game. Callie Smith led the Lady Lions with 18 points, followed by Sadie Davidson with 14, Keely Stevens with 11, Lily Williams with 10 and Riley Summers with 2. Addie Alms led Gainesville’s scoring efforts with 12, followed by Laney Suter with 9, Baylor Hewett with 8, Kelsie Hogan with 3, Amie Winrod with 3 and Alli Garrison with 1.
Following that game, Bradleyville, seeded in the number two spot, took on sixth seeded Cabool and won 65-35.
Bakersfield’s Lady Lions returned to Gainesville on Friday to play Mansfield, who defeated the Bakersfield girls 48-33. Sadie Davidson led the Lady Lions’ scoring efforts with 12 points, followed by Kelly Stevens with 9, and Callie Smith with 6. Carrleigh Green, Abby Guffy and Lily Williams chipped in 2 points each.
Afterward, Bradleyville played Seymour and lost 53-30.
On Saturday, Gainesville lost to a tough Mansfield team, 34-26. Baylor Hewett led the scoring with 12 points for the Gainesville girls. Others scoring for Gainesville were Addie Alms 8 and Kelsie Hogan, Mylie Frye and Amie Winrod with 2 each. Addie Alms led the rebounding column with 8, followed by Baylor Hewett with 6.
After that game, Seymour defeated Cabool, 60-31.
Monday, Gainesville played Cabool for the consolation round and won 45-34. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Addie Alms with 12 points. Others scoring for Gainesville were Mylie Smith with 8, Lauren Smith and Baylor Hewett with 7 each, Laney Suter with 6, Amie Winrod with 3 and Kelsie Hogan with 2.
Bakersfield defeated Bradleyville 57-47 to take third place. Kelly Stevens led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Calllie Smith with 16. Others scoring for the Lady Lions were Aubrey Luna 6, Sadie Davidson 5, Hadley Stevens and Madison Melvin with 4 each, and Lily Williams and Carrleigh Green 2 each. The win brought the Lady Lions record to 7-3 on the season.
Seymour beat Mansfield 51-41 to win the tournament championship.
