Learn to Run clinic to be held in October

Runners can sign up now to attend the PRS FIT Altra Learn to Run Clinic set for the weekend of Oct. 12-14 in Gainesville. David Murphy and Jon Wilson, local ultra-marathoners and leaders of the Idiots Running Club, asked PRS FIT founder and head coach Jeff Kline of Estes Park, Colo., to present the clinic. "This is a great opportunity for all levels of runners," Murphy said. "Whether you're just getting into running or you're looking to improve your pace on your next 100-miler, there will be lots of good information for everyone."

Kline has been training runners and triathletes since 1999. "At the end of my competitive running and triathlon career I knew there was only one direction to take my life. That direction was to help runners and triathletes of all abilities work toward and achieve their goals," the coach said. "So I studied under and worked with some of the most highly regarded experts in the industry. I became a certified personal trainer as well as a certified running and triathlon coach. I completed my studies in the nursing and nutrition fields, all in an effort to bring each individual I work with the best and most up-to-date training sciences and practices available.

"I'm very excited to come to Ozark County and meet area runners, " he added. "My goal is to provide participants with an unforgettable experience and arm them with knowledge, allow them to make new friends, and leave with a greater love for the sport."

The clinic will kick off Friday with a presentation covering the history of running, the importance of good running form, basic heart rate training and better nutrition for endurance. Saturday will be an optional group run in the morning, with a learn to run clinic, individual gait analysis and body alignment in the afternoon and a question and answer session in the evening.

Sunday morning is an optional group run followed by a running shoe review.

"This is a great opportunity for Ozark County and the surrounding area," said Jon Wilson.  "Whether you're a competitive runner or a recreational runner, this clinic will provide you with quality information to help you get the most out of  your training."

The cost to attend the clinic is $50 per person. To sign up for the clinic, log on to http://www.prsfit.com/camps-and-clinics. A limited number of spots are available for the clinic; those interested should sign up as soon as possible.
