Firefighters from Bakersfield, Tecumseh and Caulfield VFDs worked together to extinguish a blaze at a travel trailer and a roofed structure it sat underneath on O Highway Saturday, July 20.

The camper trailer was the residence of Brian Mottus and Janette Blake, according to J.B. Duke with the Tecumseh VFD. Both residents were uninjured in the fire, but their three dogs died in the blaze.

According to this week’s Ozark County sheriff’s report, the call came into the 911 dispatch office at 8:24 p.m. Saturday, July 20, when it was reported that the trailer was already fully engulfed.

Three firefighters from Tecumseh VFD, three from Bakersfield VFD and six from Caulfield VFD responded to the fire and worked together to extinguish the flames.

The Ozark County Ambulance also responded to the scene in the case that someone might have endured an injury but was not needed.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the area where the camper sat. It was a total loss. The American Red Cross was called to aid the residents of the trailer.

Duke told the Times that they were unable to determine the cause of the fire, but the residents believed it might have been from chicken that had been left on the camper’s stove.
