Carlyon Robinson Lane, 89

Editor’s note: This obituary was written by Carlyon’s son Greg.

On May 16, my beautiful mother passed away peacefully at her home in Kansas City, Missouri. She was 89.  Carlyon was born in 1933 in Romance, Missouri, in Ozark County. Carlyon lived most of her life in Kansas City starting when she worked at KCKN radio station, CIT Corporation and 20+ years at Midwest Women’s Health Care in North Kansas City. She married Bert Lane in 1964 at which time she became not only a wife, but a mother of three young boys who she raised without hesitation. In 1970, Carlyon and Bert welcomed their fourth child.

Carlyon was proud of her Ozark County roots, often bragging of the wisdom and intelligence of her parents. She often told stories of family and friends going back generations. Not one to let other people define her, Carlyon embraced her upbringing in “Hillbilly Country.” She had a love of Country & Western music highlighted by her years at KCKN where she met countless legends of country music. She was also a city girl with a young soul who loved shopping and nights on the town with friends.  She loved gardening and trips to estate sales to find just the right item to place in her home of 53 years.

She was a woman of enormous strength and independence who saw the good in all people and treated everyone with unrelenting kindness. Carlyon is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lena Robinson, brothers Russell & Doug Robinson and Bert Lane, her husband of 16 years. She is survived by her four children, Larry, Randy, Darrell and Greg Lane, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial will be held at 11 o’clock on May 27th at Jackson Cemetery in Romance, Missouri.  A celebration of life will be held in Kansas City in the coming days. Details and directions will be posted on her Facebook page (Carla Robinson Lane).
