Pair jailed on $2.5 million bond each for Caulfield murder

Elisabeth Gunter, one of two people accused of killing Caulfield resident Joy Dishneau, is in the Howell County jail on $2.5 million bond after waiving extradition from Illinois, where she was arrested.

Gunter, 43, is jailed along with Dennis Ray Woodward, 46, both charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 2 stabbing death of Dishneau, 63.

The two also face charges of first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Gunter and Woodward were arrested Monday. Gunter was arrested in Illinois, where she waived extradition Tuesday and was returned to Missouri.

Gunter appeared Wednesday in Howell County Circuit Court.

Woodward's bond was also set at $2.5 million.

During an interview with Sgt. Casey Jadwin and Missouri State Trooper Donald Jones, Gunter allegedly said she and Woodward plotted robbing Dishneau, the Baxter Bulletin reported. According to authorities, Gunter told investigators they packed two sets of rubber gloves and a knife, then drove to a secluded spot near Dishneau's home.

According to a probable cause statement, Gunter contended Woodward broke glass out of a back door and entered Dishneau's home. A short time later, Gunter allegedly heard Dishneau say that Woodward was hurting her and not to break her neck, according to the court record. Woodward then called Gunter into the home, according to the probable cause statement, and she claimed she saw him cleaning what she told investigators was a dagger in a bathroom sink.

In his interview, however, Woodward allegedly told investigators he and Gunter discussed robbing Dishneau to gain enough money for a down payment on some land.

Woodward allegedly told investigators Gunter told him Dishneau had been shot. Later, according to Woodward's statement to authorities, Gunter told him she had stabbed Dishneau.

According to authorities, items taken from Dishneau's residence included a television, a computer, a digital camera, $50 in cash and some "miscellaneous junk." Gunter told authorities she and Woodward packed the stolen items into Dishneau's Jeep Liberty and drove approximately 10 miles away before stopping and transferring the stolen items into Gunter's Chevrolet truck.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Gunter allegedly told investigators she had the murder weapon and some of the stolen items in a black bag she had in her hands. Jones opened the bag and found a dagger, a computer and a camera, according to the probable cause statement.

A 42-inch television investigators believe was stolen from Dishneau's home was found in Gunter's parents' home by Illinois State Police on Monday.
