Snowstorm slams Arkansas, southern Missouri
Locally, accumulation totals ranging from 4-8 inches blanketed Ozark County, making roads treacherous and closing all five Ozark County schools.
Snowfall in Gainesville totaled 5 inches. In Mountain Home, Ark., 8 inches of snow was reported, while Harrison, Ark., and Branson reported a foot of snow. Farther north, Ava reported about 3 inches of snow.
The heaviest snow was in northwest Arkansas, with 25 inches being reported in Rogers and 22 inches in Hunstville.
The snow again shut down schools, including Gainesville, which will be closed again on Thursday. That brings the total number of days missed to 13. As it stands, Gainesville will be having classes until the last week of May, instead of the original May 19 last day of school.
Law enforcement officials urge motorists to stay at home if at all possible. If you must go out in the weather, be sure to keep a safe distance behind the person in front of you and slow down, officials said. Also take a blanket and boots in case you become stranded.
This sign at a Gainesville church on Wednesday displays the sentiments of many after yet another round of winter precipitation hit Ozark County Wednesday morning.
