Rev. A. L. Simmons, pastor of the M. E. Church of this place, returned Monday after holding a three-week revival meeting at the Howard Ridge Church. He reports a good interest in the meeting resulting in 15 additions to the church, six by letter and nine on probation.

Toledo –The thermometer registered 21 below zero Monday morning of last week; 15 Monday morning; 8 Tuesday morning and 4 Wednesday morning.
Caney – D. L. Mayberry has sent every boy at Camp Funston from Ozark County a big apple, and he sent his nearest relative, Jas. L. Loftis, a present.
Locust – Everett Shelton caught a gray fox last week. Also, Arthur Reynolds caught one.
Shiloh – Leonard Chaney purchased an organ last week.
Dec. 20, 1918
Bakersfield – Word was received here that Thurlow Mullins, son of Jim Mullins, of two miles west of town, died in France the 4th of October. He leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Darling Thurlow, he has left us.
Dec. 17, 1942
Mr. and Mrs. Wes Farless of this city received a telegram from their son, Alfred, who is in the Navy, saying he would be home soon.
A birthday party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Crisp recently in honor of their daughter, Ovia Marie’s 9th birthday and also Betty Lou Hickey’s 8th birthday. ... Refreshments consisting of cake and ice cream and old-fashioned popcorn balls were served.
Luna – Don’t forget to write to the boys in service. A letter from home is one thing they can’t buy at the store.
Roy Hambelton has sold his big truck and bought another.

Work has begun on tearing down the building formerly used as Clark’s Trading Post on the lot purchased by the Bank of Gainesville as a site for a new bank building. ...
The building was constructed around 1890 by Dr. J. T. Arnold, according to Mrs. Ethel Stevens, and is the oldest dwelling on the Gainesville square.
It had been used as a dwelling by the families of Frank Wood, Sid Amyx, Paul Hambelton and Skeeter Stevens.
Sgt. James Dancy, who has returned from Vietnam, spent a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Dancy, at Theodosia before leaving for Barksdale AFB in Louisiana.
Lone Ash – Mrs. Nellie Robbins picked strawberries out of her patch and took Mrs. Daisy Upton a mess. Daisy said they were big nice berries.

Dr. M. J. Hoerman, widely known and well-loved physician of Ozark County died yesterday about 9:30 a.m. in St. John’s Hospital at Springfield.
Dr. Hoerman entered the hospital last Wednesday evening for routine tests. He was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit after suffering a stroke during the tests.

Jody Wood, Gainesville high school junior, will perform with the All-State Band at the Missouri Music Educators Convention at Tan Tar-A Lodge in January. Wood was named to the band after a recent audition in Columbia. ...
“This is a high honor for Jody and our school,” Jerry Brogdon, GHS band director, said, “Especially since the All-State Band is chosen from the entire state with no regard for school class or size.”
Three doctors who are now operating family clinics at West Plains and Bakersfield will open an office in Gainesville on Dec. 17.
The clinic will be located in the Hermitage building on the north side of the square. The three doctors are A. G. Bentley, D.O.; N. E. Byam, D. O.; and E. R. Henegar, D. R. All three graduated from the Kirks-ville College of Osteopathic Medicine in the early 1970s.

Chosen as Dora’s Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas from the high school were Chancey Hambelton and Teresa Shipley.
Denver Hewitt and Amber Pemberton were chosen from Dora Elementary school. The flower girl was Audrey Killion escorted by Cole Thornton.
